Learning how to prioritize your day will make success much easier for you and increase your overall level of satisfaction.
If you aren’t getting the most out of life or your daily activities chances are you aren’t making the right things a priority.
What you choose to spend your time on and how are the most critical elements of creating a fulfilling lifestyle, or at the very least a comfortable one.
What we make a priority often gets done.
Everyone has priorities, however not everyone chooses to make the same things a priority.
One persons may choose to sit down and watch every episode of lost, while another may choose to focus on a project for work, and yet another may choose to spend his/her day resting on the beach under an umbrella.
What and how you choose to prioritize can greatly affect how your day turns out.
We all have priorities because it’s necessary
If it weren’t for priorities everything that presented itself to us would either be important, urgent, or necessary.
We would get overwhelmed and shut down. Unable to function on even the most basic level. Priorities bring order to chaos, and pleasure to order.
Every moment of your day you are choosing to make something a priority.
It’s being able to make the majority of these choices the RIGHT CHOICE that leads to fulfillment and success.
If you aren’t getting the most out of life chances are you’re most likely focusing on and spending your time doing the wrong activities or making ineffective, poor decisions on what it is you’re trying to accomplish.
So how do you correct this issue?
Here are some tips to help you prioritize your day better. “Remember your goals, and priorities should be aligned with your lifestyle goals, or at least support it.”
1) Figure out what priorities you want to accomplish.
What do you need to get done so that you can spend your time doing what you want?
2) Set daily goals or put them into 3 day or weekly time frames if it’s a large task.
It’s important to get used to scheduling what’s important and needs to get done, even if you aren’t the best at following through “at the moment” you’ll get yourself into the habit of at least knowing what needs to be done and when.
3) Beak down the priority into smaller action steps.
Whether you have to work on a large project, clean your house, or plan your itinerary for your vacation, split the big priorities into smaller action steps.
Break down the various activities you need to focus on into smaller goals and focus on one at a time so you can give it your full attention and diminish your sense of being overwhelmed.
This helps eliminate mental distractions and speeds up the process through clarity.
4) Give each goal a specific amount of time you need to accomplish it.
This will help you stay focused.
Too often a small goal becomes a large one because more time is spent dwelling on it or saying you’ll finish it than simply taking action and getting it done because you never specified how long it would take to complete.
5) When all of your main priorities are accomplished set some time aside to enjoy what it is that brings you the most pleasure as this will help you relax, focus, and re-energize when it comes time to doing your next task, project etc.
And remember if you make sitting in front of the T.V. a priority your likely to accomplish it.
One of the biggest reasons for feeling overwhelmed is feeling that you have too much to do and not enough time, energy, or resources to do it all. The smaller the activity the easier it is, the less stressed you are, and the happier you will feel.
